What Is The Difference Between Fe500 And Fe500D TMT Bars ?
TMT or Thermo Mechanically treated bars are an ideal match for strong constructions. This is due to the manufacturing process that these bars go through.
The quenching process exposes the hot rolls of the bar to jets of cool water that hardens the outer surface of the bar, leaving the inside core hot. This results in supreme ductability and malleability of the bars.
The bars are also earthquake resistant, because of their unique properties it doesn’t break easily thus, making the whole structure strong.
THE GRADES OF STEEL
Fe500D is a new addition of deformed steel that contains same specified 0.2 percent proof stress/yield but with enhanced minimum percentage elongation unlike Fe500 which has a value of 12% elongation.
Tensile strength for Fe500 is 545MPa and for Fe500D it is 565MPa.
From the chemical composition point Fe500D contains 0.25% carbon as compared to 0.30% in Fe500. Also the percentage of sulphur and phosphorus contents are lower in Fe500D.
Fe500D with the lower quantities of Carbon, Sulphur and Phosphorous helps in preserving the steel and reduce shocks from earthquakes.
