Grades _ Sizes of TMT Bars Available In India You Should Know
Steel bars do not vary according to the structure but they vary according to the loading conditions imposed on the structure.
In India, rebars are available in the following grades as per IS:1786-2008 Fe 415, Fe 500, Fe 550, Fe 600.
Rebars are quenched with water at a higher level of pressure which results in the hardening of the outer surface, while keeping the inner core remains soft.
The rebars are ribbed so that the concrete can have a better grip.
Indian Standard Rebar sizes are:
- 10MM
- 12MM
- 16MM
- 20MM
- 25MM
- 28MM
- 32MM
- 36MM
- 40MM
- 50MM
Coastal regions use galvanized rebars to prolong their life.
Rebars are still available in grades and specifications that vary in –
- Strength
- Tensile Strength
- Chemical Composition
- Elongation Percentage
The use of grade itself indicates the minimum permissible yield strength and it should be according to the specification of the requirements in the context of material specification.
